Choosing a scan mode
Most antivirus products run time-consuming scans that slow computer performance while you wait. ZoneAlarm security software helps you avoid this problem by using scan modes with appropriate degrees of speed and smart selectivity:
- The first time ZoneAlarm security software runs an antivirus scan, it scans all of your files, folders, and archive files (such as .zip files). This Ultra Deep Scan takes longer than other scans and is appropriate to establish a secure baseline, but afterward it is rarely needed.
- After the first scan, ZoneAlarm security software defaults to the Normal Scan. The Normal Scan skips archive files and other files that are not executable. By skipping these files, it scans only files that can act like programs, so you get a quicker scan with minimal risk of missing viruses that could activate.
- You can also specify a more thorough or faster scan mode. For example, if you believe your computer was exposed to a virus outbreak, run a Deep or Ultra Deep Scan. Or, if your weekly scan is scheduled in a couple days but you want some minimal antivirus cleanup to happen before then, run a Quick Scan.
Choosing a Scan Mode:
- Select Anti-virus/spyware.
- Click the Advanced Options button.
- In the dialog that appears, under Advanced Options, click Scan Mode.
